Richard Bonomo
is the Principal of Turn-Key Biotechnology,
Inc. He was
a founder and Director of Facilities for Regeneron Pharmaceuticals,
Inc. where he built their first hundred thousand square feet of laboratory,
office, and pilot plant space, and established all of the company’s
support operations including purchasing, IT, graphics services, and
safety. Prior to working at Regeneron, he spent ten years as a biochemist
and project manager at the New York Blood Center where he developed
large-scale methods for manufacturing human leukocyte interferon and
other lymphokines, ELISA assays for fibrinogen degradation products,
and a method for killing lipid-enveloped viruses such as HIV and Hepatitis
B in blood plasma used for transfusion. This last process is licensed
in the United States and is in wide use in Europe and other countries
around the world.
His interest and talents in facility design derive from his training
as a set designer and a lifelong interest in architecture and fine
arts.
